Immigration, both legal and illegal, is bad for the economy and job growth.

A study by the Center for Immigration Studies, as reported by the Washington Post, has echoed reports done during the Reagan administration, proving that immigration is bad for the economy. All job gains since the year 2000 have gone to immigrants, while native born worker unemployment numbers continue to increase. With the current immigration reform bill on the House floor including a “Path to Citizenship for all Illegal Immigrants” should we be inviting in more job seekers when the present population can’t find jobs?

One more step towards civil liberty and equal rights for all!

The Supreme Court of the United States has struck down the Defense Of Marriage Act as unconstitutional.

Watch that finger kid!

Seriously! Seriously! What the hell have we let this damned Politically Correct bullshit come to? If this isn’t the turning point we are lost as a society, and damned well should be!

This is Eyes_Open by the way, don’t blame the foul language on Griz.

New signs that the earth has a built in ability to recover from harm we can cause.

There have been recent, as well as well documented cases in the past, that the Earth is a self healing system. With today’s climate change hysteria at it’s pivotal moment ,and many people blaming humans for the most recent shifts, the earth is once again proving that it has prepared itself well ahead of time to deal with anything we can throw at it.

With new growth sprouting up from the fertile and newly uncovered landscape, the environments ability to cope with rising CO2 levels also increases, creating a new balance in the eons old game of environmental shifts. Once again the earth has out done herself, in spite of how powerful we like to believe we are.

Armed Survivors

I’m adding this little areas to the deck for stories of cases where firearms saved lives, or ended an otherwise bad situation. The general media has little time to report on such incidents, because they don’t bring in the ratings or aren’t within the political beliefs of the editor/owners of the network, so I thought we could post the stories we find in small town papers for balance.

IRS claims it can read your e-mail without a warrant

Anyone for a forth amendment discussion? Does, or should, the government have the right to peruse individual’s e-mail accounts, and chat history, without cause or a warrant?

If they are allowed to continue this practice, how long before corporations are given the same “rights”?

Gay Marriage; States rights, federal rights, or human rights

By Eyes_open

As the Supreme Court takes on the issue of California’s Proposition 8, and the federal DOMA, and Jeb Bush weighs in that he believes marriage should be a states rights issue, where do you stand on the issue of same-sex marriage, and why. Is it a matter that should be left to each state, should the federal government be involved and to what degree. Or is this a constitutional violation of civil rights, placing it in the hands of the Supreme Court.

Gas tax changes

I know that this topic has been hit before by our core group, but I do not remember if we covered it here or not.

RM has provided the following text for us:

The influx of the Hybrid autos and high fuel economy vehicles has caused an unanticipated effect of state governments. Selling less gasoline means less tax money collected on gasoline sales which is used to fund road construction. Texas is proposing an increase to the gas tax to offset the decrease in gasoline consumption.

http://www.texasinsider.org/texas-may-need-to-increase-gasoline-taxes/

This are seeing something similar in both Oregon and Washington, except our states are looking more at taxing vehicles by the mile.

THis brings up other questions such as:

For those of us in border communities, how do you show miles that are outside the state?

Do the smart cars get a lesser rate since their weight is so low that they cause far less wear and tear ont he road structure?

Research pair finds global warming matched predictions from 1990

http://phys.org/news/2012-12-pair-global.html

Is this an indication that we are doomed, or that global warming is part of the natural cycle of the earth and we can’t do anything to alter it?

The article mentions that in 20 years the average temperature has risen .35 degrees Celsius, very close to the prediction. But the original scientist that made that prediction couldn’t have know to factor in the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, the sudden reduction in gasses from Russia or the rise of China as an industrial giant, etc. Though the article attributes this to the “High caliber” of the original scientist, unless that caliber enabled them to see the future events that is not a likely scenario. Isn’t it more likely that “Global warming” isn’t man made or man influenced? And just how much of a difference will ~1 degree make over 40 years, if it continues? Remember, it was the same scientific groups that blamed man-made carbon emissions in the 1970s for the fall in global temperatures, and the beginning of the new ice age, that never happened.
