While fact checking a speech

Yes, I do perform fact checking. Not on everything, but items that seem too good/bad to be true. So, I was listening to one of the Lake Land protesters during the walkout the other day. She made the claim that the number one cause of death for kids was gun violence. Now, I do not agree with everything that they are trying to accomplish with this push. I do support a couple of items such as; less kids being killed, and their involvement in the process. (More on this later) Do I want kids to be getting killed? No.

So I pulled up the numbers and the little lass was wrong, the claim was false for every age group. The most recent chart is below for your review. For the moment, let me focus on the age group of the speaker, 14-24.  Homicide, Firearm is 2nd after motor vehicle accidents. Have you heard anyone push for vehicular safely? Even with vehicles being a third more deadly… When you combine the numbers from all of the age groups, where do you think homicide, firearm falls in? 5th place.

So let’s consider how business and life works. You seek out the fastest, cheapest, and effective method to bring the best results, right? If we were really looking to reduce juvenile deaths, we would take our eyes to the bigger numbers right? Well, drivers are not to be vilified, there are too many of them. God forbid we overburden the police by having them actually enforce the traffic laws. We would need to pay for more of them so that they could perform the job. Don’t get me wrong, I like to police. I just think that they have been refocused away from the community policing that we need to build the social structure that is conducive to respect for oneself and others. A great example of that was the pilot program in Vancouver WA that put cameras on school buses to catch drivers putting out kids in harms way while getting on or off the bus. Why was it called off? it generated too many citations. Wait, what?!?  Initially it would be a revenue generator, then as respect (or fear) built up, the drivers would pay more attention and the tickets would taper off with safer drivers. I know at least one local girl died in this manner, more than died in the county by school shootings in the last ten years.

There are 37000+ high schools in the US. How many have had a real shooting? No, I personally do not count the bullshit numbers being padded in such as a window getting shot by a punk with a BB gun. However for expedience, I will count the data in an unfiltered manner from 01/01/00 to 03/14/18.

There were 268 deaths and 386 injuries. Too many I know, but if you listen to the media and rhetoric then you would think that the number was in four or five digits.

Since the various levels of government have already permitted plenty of infringements to the second amendment, what will a very small amount more hurt right? It isn’t like I am going to pay attention to them. So let’s look at what may have some impact.

Good background checks, that are not as moronic as the no-fly list. There has to be due process to individuals being named. We have enough people listed on the no-fly because their name sounds foreign.

Mandated weapons security, safe, lock, other similar manners to keep arms limited to proper owners.

Illegal immigrants in possession of a firearm, immediate deportation after due process.

I am quite curious why suicide (in any manner) is listed as an “Unintentional Injury Death”. By the very definition of suicide, it is intentional and should not be included on this table. Another oddity in the results was that from 25-64 the leading cause was unintentional poisoning. No ideas there yet, but I found it notable.

Why can people not follow directions from the police?

We have had another incident of police shooting a man.
The man was black, not that color really matters to me.
The blood looked the same as any other that I have seen spilled.

We realy need another statistic being kept in the police shooting database.
That stat should be, “Was the decedent following police officer instructions? [Y/N]”

The video of the Terence Crutcher case was obscured, both form the air, and from the dash cam. It cerainly LOOKS like he may have been reaching into his car window. I cannot be sure.

If he was reaching in, he sealed his fate.

Each of the cases that I have seen video of recently involved individuals NOT responding to police instructions. Perhaps there is something different in the culture, but my white ass will listen to instructions from an officer.

The ALCU is very clear on this subject:

Do stay calm and be polite.
Do not interfere with or obstruct the police.
Do not lie or give false documents.
Do prepare yourself and your family in case you are arrested.
Do remember the details of the encounter.
Do file a written complaint or call your local ACLU if you feel your rights have been violated.

In fact, their message is so important, I am going to link to their page:

If you do not listen to the instructions given by police, you may very well DIE.
Follow the instructions so that you may live to file a complaint after you are safely released from custody.

Why is this concept such a challenge to understand?

I am very sorry, that another family and collection of friends have to mourn the loss.
From the outside, this seems like it is a tragic waste of life.

Ferguson, yes I have views too

So the world has been watching to see where this went.

Before I begin, I was not there, nor was I in the grand jury, so I know only what the public knows.

I am in a different camp than Wil Wheaton, and others. I am probably in the minority of Anonymous, as the vocal side is stomping their feet that this was such a travesty.

I do not know what factors told the officer that deadly force was the best reaction.  Perhaps he SHOULD have used a non-lethal.

Am I racist? no, will I be called racist, could be.

We knew that the chance was high that there was going to be trouble either way tonight.  How many riots or destruction has occurred after winning a pro ball game or hockey game? People get overly excited and lose their common sense.

The bottom line is that the grand jury did not see enough to compel ANY of them to put forth charges. Not ONE!

We know from the strong arm robbery shortly before his death, that he was not in his right mind. He may have been kind and gentle normally, but not that day.

Sorry, this was blown way out of proportion, and most of us knew it in August. So much money and time spent. I will not call it it a waste, because our society seemed to feel the need for it to be intense. So be it.

We also knew in August that the masses were no going to accept the outcome.

Now it will go to a civil case where you don’t really have to prove a case. At least not anywhere near as conclusively.

God help those who have been directly impacted; family, friends, the community, even the police…

To those protesting: Please do not rip up your communities…

One school shooting you WON’T see on the national stage or in the media.

The best way to deal with a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun.

So why won’t the media give praise to this officer, when they are more than willing to condemn gun owners for one persons actions when it isn’t stopped quickly?

Too much in the news

I have to wonder how much of the terrible news has factors such as 12-21-12, general holiday depression, or overcast weather depression.

I have not looked for any annual correlating data to see if there are numbers to back my perception or not.

Those of us in the Portland Ore area understand a bit of what the Connecticut families are dealing with, but their situation is far to horrific for my mind at this time. Feeling nauseous and want to cry.  Kids are to be left the hell alone! Sigh…

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends, and those involved directly or indirectly.

Christian Bale – Please do not fall to the requests

There is a wave of folks, as large wave on Facebook…
that are asking Christian Bale to don the Batman costume and visit the victims of yesterdays attack.

While this is well intentioned and heartfelt, I am concerned that due to the circumstances, it would be unwise to make that visit.

We are talking about a group of people who were watching his performance at the time.
Would this cause, or agitate any PTSD symptoms?

Was James Holmes part of a conspiracy?

Now that a day and a half has passed, I am starting to look around for what they have pieced together.
We know that much happened in a short amount of time.
The speculation is so deep that we still need our hip waders

I am quite tired of seeing his smirk on all of these stories. I really wish that they would stop using that pic. I also wish (but I know that they won’t do it) that he would be placed in GenPop so that the local detainees could spare us the trial.

I found an interesting page:

What they are questioning is if this is another (alleged) case of being staged. This is the same sort of stuff we see after every domestic atrocity. I suspect that it is fallout from Watergate and other governmental wrongdoings.

Why are all of these people just the nicest people, and nobody would ever expect them to do something like this? It really makes it hard to watch to potential threats. I think that if I were to full on snap, there would be several people that would say… “Yeah, I could see him doing that. Who pissed him off that badly?” Fortunately for me, most would never expect that I would commit such an act.

They are questioning where he would have gotten the gear, let alone gotten the money to do so.

They are also wondering about the timing. The question is being asked if this is related to the UN Small Arms Treat. Time and time again I get email from Rand Paul’s group claiming that Obama is banning weapons, and that this treaty is going to destroy the 2nd amendment… lies, but oh well. It is what I have come to expect from that segment of the group.

They go on to list some of the (global, not just the US) Government sponsored mass murders:

50+ million dead: Mao Ze-Dong (China, 1958-61 and 1966-69, Tibet 1949-50)
12+ million dead: Adolf Hitler (Germany, 1939-1945) – concentration camps, civilian deaths and dead Russian POWs
8+ million dead: Leopold II of Belgium (Congo, 1886-1908)
6+ million dead: Jozef Stalin (USSR, 1932-39)
5+ million dead: Hideki Tojo (Japan, 1941-44)
2+ million dead: Ismail Enver (Turkey, 1915-22)
1.7 million dead: Pol Pot (Cambodia, 1975-79)
1.6 million dead: Kim Il Sung (North Korea, 1948-94)
1.5 million dead: Menghistu (Ethiopia, 1975-78)
1 million dead: Yakubu Gowon (Biafra, 1967-1970)
900,000 dead: Leonid Brezhnev (Afghanistan, 1979-1982)
800,000 dead: Jean Kambanda (Rwanda, 1994)

There has also been speculation that this fuqtard is a Tea Party member. I even received an alert from ALIPAC that these questions were being raised. As if it mattered to anyone. It would of course be used by the anti-gunners, so I guess it would matter to them.  I would like to find out his political affiliation, to to put that to rest. Being in medical school, I would expect that he is a Democrat. When my step-mother was in medical school, her classmates seemed to lean that way.

As I explore more of naturalnews.com I am finding some good material. I am having a hard time not getting distract by my research.

So Sad – RIP

It is an utter shame about what happened in a Colorado theater last night.

To this point, we have not seen violence such as this in places of entertainment.
Perhaps as all of his things are sifted through, we will be able to get a better understanding of how this asshole cracked his egg.

With the media being saturated with this, I am going to try to find something else for us to play with, but at this moment, I am at a loss.

Intrusion on firearms ownership

It has been brought to my attention that the ATF is seeking comments as part of a study to ban shotguns that have a magazine greater than five rounds.
I am quite tired of the various levels of government sticking their collective noses in an area where the framers of the Constitution were quite clear on, our need to be able to possess firearms.

It looks like they are considering classifying a shotgun with the larger magazine (or capable of accepting a large magazine) as a military weapon.

(looks like it is dealing with the importation of shotguns, so I am guessing that it would not apply to domestically built firearms)

We The People should have military weapons as we are the militia, and have the right to defend our homes and families.

Five rounds… if the criminals know that you are limited to five rounds from the most effective home defense weapon, then you better spend more time on the range and in home defense type courses. because if the criminals can count and survive the five, you are fucked. I guess another option that this would bring about would be larger quantities of loaded weapons around the home. since you may not have the time to reload, you grab a spare… wouldn’t that idea really piss of the pussy-assed anti-gunners?

There is an email address accepting comments at the ATF… shotgunstudy@atf.gov

They believe that the following characteristics are “not particularly suitable or readily adaptable for proting purposes.”
(1) Folding, telescoping, or collapsible stocks;
(2) bayonet lugs;
(3) flash suppressors;
(4) magazines over 5 rounds, or a drum magazine;
(5) grenade-launcher mounts;
(6) integrated rail systems (other than on top of the receiver or barrel);
(7) light enhancing devices;
(8) excessive weight (greater than 10 pounds for 12 gauge or smaller);
(9) excessive bulk (greater than 3 inches in width and/or greater than 4 inches in depth);
(10) forward pistol grips or other protruding parts designed or used for gripping the
shotgun with the shooter’s extended hand.

Now, I do not recall the right to bear arms being hinged on sporting purposes.

I am likely to add to this post, so you may want to look for updates.

Trayvon Martin Bullshit

This seems to be an issue that is divided along a few lines.

  • Race
  • stance on guns
  • stance on community involvement
  • mandates on the police

I have only read a few articles on the subject, so I am still assessing the situation.

So many are upset that there has not been an arrest. Here in Washington, there is only one crime that police are required to arrest on, and it isn’t murder.

Domestic violence is the only crime that the police do not have latitude (technically).
