Isn’t it interesting that facts get lost

Last week 14 year old Ahmed Mohamed was arrested for a “bomb”.

The media spotted the blatant racism and thrust him to the spotlight. The attention to overcome the horrible breaches of citizen’s rights was interesting to watch.

Another point of interest was that the facts about the device seemed lost upon the media. Perhaps it would have detracted from the hyped story.

Yes, the school was stupid.

Yes, the police need to be sued shitless for their denial of access to parents for a minor in questioning.

But the device that he had was a clock that “he made”. Would it be a point of interest that it was just a commercial clock removed from its case?

He tucked the power cord in so it would “not be suspicious”. That is an odd thought for a young teen.

In the end, he has an invitation to the White House, Facebook HQ, and an engineering job offer at NASA in response to the electronic version of plagiarism.

On the criminal justice aspects I am behind the kid, as the police and school screwed the pooch on this. They MUST be held accountable.

Where is the KATU Clan now?

I think we are long overdue for a roll call.

How is our online family doing?

It only take a few posts back to see what and how I have been doing.

Health is good, job is good, family is also doing well. We need to save for a new roof, but hey, life isn’t perfect. Gigglez and I are doing our anniversary vacation in a little over a month.

What is Griz into now?

*** as always (since there are some new readers) my employer is to be left out of my posts. You can always email me if you have questions about this policy.

A few months ago, I was promoted to Cyber Security Analyst I.

Along with this promotion came a tremendous amount of studies. I need to come up to speed with the rest of my newly formed team.

There are several certifications I will be seeking.

You will also see some oddly geeky posts that I do not expect you to understand. Part of the upcoming posts will be my mental digestion processes. Another part of included will be cautionary tidbits that I discover that may be of use to you. Some of you follow my Twitter feed (@Pissed0ffpirate (with a zero)) so you have already started seeing the new cyber security content.

I hope that some will find it interesting and choose to me interactive with it. If not, that is okay, it is like practicing for a speech and other memory aids.

Wi-Fi projects

I have a project that I am struggling with.

It is a bit geeky.

The goal is to get pick up a wifi signal at a couple of miles from the source.

My expectation is that I will have a couple parts to this; a wireless router, a cantenna, and software to possibly break a wi-fi password.

For the cantenna, I am thinking about this:

I do not know what range I should realistically  hope to get.

Instead of a wireless router, I may go with a raspberry pi option
